Hoàn Kiếm Lake

Hoàn Kiếm Lake, also known as Lake of the Returned Sword, is a popular tourist attraction located in the heart of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. It holds great historical and cultural significance and is a must-visit destination for tourists.

Legend has it that in the 15th century, Emperor Lê Lợi was given a magical sword by the Dragon King to fight against Chinese invaders. After successfully defeating the enemy, the emperor was boating on the lake when a giant golden turtle appeared and asked for the sword back. Believing that the sword belonged to the divine, the emperor returned it to the turtle. The turtle then took the sword and disappeared into the depths of the lake, which was then named Hoàn Kiếm Lake, meaning "Lake of the Returned Sword."
